This woman eats people. I assume that dress she’s wearing is Soylent Green… ^^

I owe you good people an explanation. Bear with me.

The last week’s not been great, let’s be honest. I’ve not been well (and you don’t want to know, but needless to say for the best part of two days I couldn’t move) and after that… I don’t know if it’s the time of year, or whether it’s simply the fact that when you get hit by illness sometimes it’s quite hard to get up but… something has changed. I’m not sure what it is, but in the particular corner of my Game World, it’s stopped being about enjoying things. It’s looking a lot like a job right now.

Some people have just vanished. Some are clearly off doing ‘other stuff’, and many of those who remain are purely focussed on gearing. Don’t tell me you’re not, because I know that’s not true. Something seems to be missing: no chat, no happy asides, it’s just gear or how hard this or that boss is. Maybe it’s just me and I’m just unfortunate, but some of the soul of the game seems to have vanished. When your task in a blog to talk about something that you find interesting and that thing suddenly stops being so, then it’s probably time to step back, so last week that’s what I did, because I reckon you guys are going to know when I’m lying. In fact I know you are.

The worst bit was the Advent Calender, which I was really enjoying, but which I should have done more planning on before I launched into it. I ran out of good ideas and being ill meant I was getting progressively further behind. Needless to say, I have learnt from this and (I hope) when we do it next year I will come to the table better prepared. I feel I ought to apologise as a result for selling you guys short. It’s not my intention to come here and not deliver the goods, after all. This is why you read a blog to begin with.

It’s at times like this that I realise that the main reason I continue to play this game isn’t for the content, it’s for the people playing it, and when those people aren’t about or they’re focussed on other things… well, the game changes. It becomes a place where people are indiscriminately mean and thoughtless. Last night for instance, when I accidentally strayed too close to a mob when CC-ing in a PuG, the tank told me I’d not get healed again by his guild mate priest, and I didn’t, and was left to die on every subsequent pull. These are the kind of people who make me realise that I play this game in a very different way to many others, and it makes me sad.

I’d like to apologise to everyone for the interruption in service, and I’d like to ask for your help and for your understanding while I try and find my way again. It may take a while, but we’ll get there, and I think it’s important that the effort is made. If at least one other person is reading this, then I think I have an obligation to do the best job I can to keep you entertained. Let’s see if I can do that.

  1. I know just where you're coming from. We've been hit by the attendance boss too. That means no raids which means less interaction and social stuff. I know just what you mean about the game changing. So many people seem to want it NOW. They want gear NOW, progress NOW, free loot NOW. I am quite happy to take my time and have fun in a more relaxed manner. Kind of makes you wonder what the youth of today will be like when they reach my age in such a rush then yearn to be back in their 20s trying to remember all the things they rushed through!

    Hugs!

Don't worry about it. Everyone goes through periods when they need to take a break from posting/WoW in general. I'd like to think we blog readers are nothing like the “GO GO GO” heroic jerks and I'm sure everyone will understand.

Hope you feel better soon, oh and have an extra /hug for good measure.

In truth there have been extended periods of that since at least partway through Wrath. Personally I've been busying myself with the Darkmon Faire, in between bouts of pre-Christmas festivities and friends-a-visiting.

As for that PuG, sadly that is I think just coincidence. All one can do in such situations is say sorry for messing up and let karma get revenge on them in due course.
